About the Speakers:

Mary C. Fearon, MSN, RN, CNOR is a Perioperative Nurse Specialist for AORN Nursing Practice where she is one of the authors for the AORN Guidelines. She is the primary author for the Guideline on Minimally Invasive Surgery and the Guideline on Teamwork and Communication. She contributes to the Clinical Issues column in the AORN Journal. Mary has been an OR nurse and member of AORN for over 30 years, including roles as a staff nurse, charge nurse, CNS, manager, and director.

Susy Rettig, RN, BSN, CIC has been in the field of IPC for almost 16 years and is certified for 12 years. As an active member of the Delaware Valley APIC Chapter, Susy presented an oral presentation at the 2017 national APIC conference and a poster at the 2015 national conference, both on High Level Disinfection and Sterilization (HLD/S). As a Senior IP, Susy supports new IP’s by mentoring them in her specialty areas of ambulatory and HLD/S. She became very involved in validating HLD/S practices in 2012 as IPC began auditing reprocessing tasks. In 2013 IPC began conducting environment of care rounds in all reprocessing locations, both inpatient and outpatient. She is also an active member of her hospitals HLD/S Committee.

Cynthia Spry, MA, MS, RN, CNOR(E), CSPDT  has 30 years experience in the perioperative setting – staff, educator, director.  She has lectured extensively and world wide on significance of cleaning both devices used in surgery and the environment to prevent surgical site infection.  She worked for Johnson and Johnson for 12 years as in international consult with responsibility for raising standards in the perioperative setting with the goal of decreasing the risk of a surgical site infection.  Serves as CoChair of the AAMI committee responsible for writing the standards for sterilization and disinfection in healthcare settings. The standard (ST79) is considered the standard that represents best practice in the USA.

Dr. Wava Truscott, PhD, MBA has a doctorate in Comparative Pathology from The University of California with emphasis in Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology.  Dr. Truscott has worked in medical device safety and infection prevention for over 35 years.  Dr. Truscott has been a speaker on these topics in 17 countries and has written over 90 articles and 6 book chapters.

Lorrie Calabrese BSN, RN, CNOR, GTS, CCSVP  has a hospital career predominantly with the Cleveland Clinic for over 20 years. ICU, Research and Operating Room Nurse.  Experienced with OR culture, protocols and AORN Guidelines.

Clinical Education Specialist with STERIS, focusing on cleaning, disinfection and sterilization. Authored two articles for HPN, one on Immediate Use sterilization and the other on World Class technologies, CI’s and BI’s (chemical and biological indicators).  Endoscopy and HLD, including GTS certification.

Currently employed by Molnlycke HC.  Her knowledge base includes HAI’s, SSI’s,MDRO’s, antiseptic CHG skin cleansing, surgical gloves, barrier products, how to protect HCW’s and patients.

Extensive relationships with IP’s, Co-Chair of Education for NEO APIC, currently and past 3 years. Member of AORN, local and National affiliations.
